Visit to Gegia Bronzini-Tessile Officina Company
Event organized in collaboration with the Ordine degli Architetti PPC di Como.
Date | saturday 30 Novemer 2019
Hour | 10 - 13
Place | Via Don Giuseppe Capiaghi 2/4, Bregnano (CO).
«My work is first and foremost a passion. There is no real production because every woven cloth is a unique work that comes to life as the weft advances on the warp: it conquers personality, adheres to the inspiration of the client, reflects the harmony of every home. The material used is absolutely natural because it is nature itself that substantiates my creations.» Gegia Bronzini
Today more than ever there is a need for a return to contact with materials and a "craftsman's" know-how. The event aims at the rediscovery of some themes related to the definition of an interior design project studied in every detail. In particular, it aims to bring back to the center of attention a sector dear to the province of Como that concerns the theme of textiles and its applications in the field of architecture.
Among the various realities of the area, the figure of Gegia Bronzini stands out, one of the most important Italian weavers of the early twentieth century who, in the 1930s, opened her business in the immediate vicinity of Venice, first as a school of weaving and then as a production laboratory. At the end of the 1940s the company moved to Cantù, where it received the stimuli of the booming furniture sector. After his death in 1976, the company passed into the hands of his daughter Marisa, who became a reference figure for her outstanding artistic skills and remarkable creative sensitivity.
Starting with a brief historical excursus on the figure of Gegia Bronzini and the role of fabric in interiors, the company's products and achievements will be presented. The intervention aims to provide the basis for an understanding of the possibilities offered by the weaving technique.
